Yelp vs Google Profanity Filter

Image
Profanity is not allowed in my family. I don't know about yours, but we were taught not to swear in any language. What if you start watching a silly movie on TV, you noticed lots of beeps at the beginning of a profanity word. I would flip the channel to watch something else.  Some people have different tolerance level when it comes to profanity. You are not supposed to swear in class, at work or at church. But people do. Some people even swear in reviews. Not clear why they had to use F-words at Arirang I have seen Yelp bypassed a few reviews with loaded F-words, B-words and A-words. I reported few reviews. They all came back with "We realize that different people have different tolerances for strong language, but our bar is pretty high so that we can allow reviewers to tell their story in their own words even when things get colorful. With that said, we've decided not to remove the review after carefully assessing it against our Content Guidelines, but thank you...

Missed You on Yelp

Image
After the Yelp page's redesign, all the notifications like compliments, friend requests and messages are not easily visible. Desktop version went through a major redesign.  So sorry. I missed you. It used to be on the home page. It's moved to upper right side of screen - hard to see. When I clicked on "About me", the notification indicator disappears. Please message me if I didn't respond to you.

Merged Wrong with Partnership Park

Gail, my Yelper friend, alerted me about a page was merged with wrong biz. There are few reviews don't belong to Red Bluff Pet Resort but it should be at Partnership Park . I can't tell how this happened. I tried to contact Pet Resort biz page owner, but no reply. The following reviews should be moved to  Partnership Park : Maria W  on 11/14/2014 Wanda G  on 10/9/2014 with her previous review 7/22/2014 Tina L on 8/11/2014 There are handful of Park photos ended up in the Pet Resort page.

Auto-Friending Feature

Image
All of the sudden, my Yelp friend list got so big. Wait, who the #%$* and that *#@$ from my Facebook are now my Yelp friends. Then, I went checking on my settings. Oh, no, I don't like this idea. I want this feature to be permanently un-checked. Not everyone on my Facebook with a Yelp account is Yelp active. In fact, my Yelp friends on Facebook is more active than those Facebook friends with Yelp account in general. I keep my Yelp friend list small is because the ease of sending invitations to my UYE's and other events. The current process is very time consuming, unless HQ changes the invitation style. I created a  step by step instruction on my blog . I guess HQ was responding to some people complained about they still having trouble to invite FB friends. Then, I noticed the request screen has changed. Below is a capture from desktop compared to the app, The request from Facebook appeared differently. I'm happy to get my control back.

Maximize Your Event Visibility

Image
It's important to properly entering correct information for your UYE on Yelp Events page. It's best to have a Public Venue with an existing business page. So the location with GPS is more accurate. There is another important element "Who is it for". I discovered it from my guests at my last UYE. It's important to provide accurate information about your event. Originally, my Asian Heritage Month UYE was listed as "Yelp Community." For awhile, I didn't see any activities on the guests count. Then, I changed it to "Everybody" because I want more people to attend this UYE. I never thought this could make a major impact on a Google Search. At the end of my UYE, I asked my guests if they were interested to stay in touch on Yelp. Paul, who was not a Yelper, told me that he just arrived from Singapore, "I wanted to find something to do in town. So I searched 'Asian Heritage Month' on Google. Your event was on top." --...

GPS Marking on the app

Image
July 2014, San Antonio I drove from Houston to attend a reunion near Ft Sam Houston. Once I arrived at the city limit of San Antonio, I started to plot my route to the hotel. The location and address contradicted each other. I had no choice because I wanted to arrive during daylight to meet people I haven't seen for decades. I'm anal retentive when it comes to location accuracy. This could help Yelpers only depend on map apps.  As soon as I arrived at the address, the Apple Map app quickly changed the target to a 12-mile away location. So, I couldn't use Yelp app to check in. After the event, I decided to explore that mysterious location. Finally, I reported this error to HQ. I'm very fortunate to have GPS built into Yelp app. I use the GPS marker religiously. It's paramount to have accurate location on the map, hours and a storefront photo. Not just for the out-of-towners to find the business, but the locals need to identify the correct business in order ...

Imperial Medical Center page

Image
To HQ, Where was the page I added http://www.yelp.com/biz/imperial-medical-center-sugar-land It's redirected to  Imperial CPR Training Center . CPR training center is at suite 220. As soon as you sent an email to confirm the  page I added on August 6 was approved. However, it was redirected. My intention was to mark a general area for this awesome location. So, all of my check-ins, tips, photos and video are merged with a place I never intended to be. Imperial Medical Center exists on Foursquare , why couldn't it be one on Yelp? Please remove the redirect and restore the link. Thank you.
