In this blog, I am gonna simplify the menu for ease of ordering. The following items with prices are based on the menu of July 2022. All noodle dishes can be made with regular thickness , thin pulled noodles , thick noodles or shaved noodles . There is no gluten-free nor vegan entrées, but you have to ask waiter which dish can be vegan and most of vegan options are in appetizers. You can also ask waiter to substitute chicken for beef (not recommended on soupy ones).  You get to choose from soupy noodles, saucy noodles (Xinjiang Style) or dry noodle (Stir Fried).  Soupy Noodles: X.M.X. Here is an overview of MDK Noodles' menu in Houston Chinatown. Storefront at night MDK can be interpreted in different ways for Myung Dong Kyoja 명동교자 or Myung Dong Kalguksu. When I translate the Korean script, I got noodles and dumplings. But I have heard that Myung Dong is the fashion district in Seoul, South Korea.  Anyways, MDK Noodles is a family owned business from Koreatown in Los Angeles. It specializes in knife-cut noodles, pork dumplings, and chewy spicy cold noodles. I am grateful to have simple Korean noodle house in Houston Chinatown. I hosted a couple of Chinatown Crawl events with a scavenger hunt theme. It's called Go Panda Go Chinatown Crawl .  First one was at a private party in 2018. I asked guests to gather certain things and share at the end of the night. Winner received a souvenir from Houston Chinatown (because they were visiting from San Antonio).  Second one was during LNY 2020 at Hong Kong City Mall  in connection to promote Houston Metro Go Texans Committee Alief Southwest Subcommittee's scholarship program. I asked people to go to the mall during 10 to 5 and capture certain items for a collage photo to post on Instagram or Facebook. I prepared 15 movie tickets as prizes, donated by APAHA. But I only had one entry. This event got media attention and it was featured on the  KHOU morning show . Third one was another partnership with HMGTC at Sterling Plaza last October. I couldn't attend due to my mom's passing and I was in California. Same game rule asked people to collect it...

Here is a newfound strip mall that resembles a strip mall in Chinatown. It's called North Golden Sun Plaza ( Google  |  Yelp ) in North Houston. The zip code should be 77014, but many still using 77068 because it's separated by a street. The street address is 3645 Cypress Creek Parkway, aka FM 1960 W, between TC Jester and Walter Road. According to an article on  Chron.com , North Golden Sun Plaza was established when Sun's Club moved in 2015 after Wal-mart moved across street (zip code 77068). Then, the lot owner expanded from one building to this horseshoe-shaped 3 buildings. Thanks to the Facebook folks who live around this area for the history and the proper street name of Cypress Creek Parkway. FM 1960 was renamed within last few years ( article on ABC13.com ). Therefore, you'll see some newer businesses are using Cypress Creek Parkway on their business cards. Either way is correct. Let me explain hot pot in one sentence. Hot pot is a traditional meal with a group of people seating at a table equipped with a bowl of boiling soup. Did you know my Chinatown Crawl UYE (Unofficial Yelp Event) made one year? It started with a trial last May during Asian Heritage Month Celebration . The response and popularity were increasing on Yelp and Facebook. Managing guests list has been a chore using Yelp Events. I am experimenting a new system by posting my meetup on more event sites like Google and invited Google Local Guides to attend. Extended my invitation to Local Guides The hardest part of hosting a popular meetup event is attendance headcount. It has always been above my original expectation. But by how much? Finding a suitable restaurant with enough seating is important. When my count of 18 guests at December's Night Market UYE grew to 22. Sherry at Yummy Kitchen was able to find solution at the last minute. Again at February's Hotpot UYE , 12 guests became 16. I had to rely on restaurant to accommodate expandable crowd. Back in January, I wrote my first review as the review #300 to start year 2017 right. Less than a month I noticed my review number dropped, not little bit but a lot. Then, began to add serial number on all of my reviews. Real soon, I'm going to "audit" my reviews. I felt violated without any warning. I have been saving my reviews since 2015. I really hate it when I spent time to write and ended up disappearing from my audience without a trace or warning. I received an email from HQ today about a review got deleted because "did not appear to describe a firsthand customer experience" at Express Rolls . Here is a collection of all of my Time for Taiwan experiences in 2016. In order to appreciate Time for Taiwan Restaurant Month, I created events on Yelp in Houston and Dallas . I carefully edited out incorrect information and add what I know to post. Making it easier for Yelpers to simply click on the restaurant link and proceed to check-in or whatever they want. This is my 2nd year promoting Time for Taiwan on Yelp.  I didn't have enough time to recruit my Yelper friends to do the same in their cities. It's a very time consuming process and organizer made the announcement so late. They used last year's date to be the special promo day. It should be July 17, not July 11.
